BRITTON BUDD APARTMENTS

Details: The Chicago Housing Authority's scope of work was to renovate and modernize the historic 11 story Britton Budd Apartments.

All of the 171 units and common areas were renovated, converting 10 existing units into ADA compliant dwelling units. All necessary repairs and upgrades were performed to the building's mechanical, plumbing and electrical systems including installation of an emergency generator, new fire protection equipment and a new fire protection system in the trash chute and compactor room. This included new boilers, pipes, smoke detectors and trash chute sprinkling systems.

Building exterior/façade repair included new windows, repair/restoration of existing fire escapes and repair of damaged terrazzo. Upgrades to the site include planting new trees and shrubs and landscaping. Renovation of tenant units included, but was not limited to, new VCT flooring and vinyl base, kitchen cabinets, a stainless steel single compartment sink, kitchen faucet, kitchen range and range hood, new energy efficient double hung windows, interior and entrance doors, bi-fold closet doors, new shower surround, and bathroom fixtures.

Due to the Historical qualities of this property, repair and restoration of terrazzo floors and tile was abundant in the common areas.
